What is a Welcome screen ?

The Welcome screen is the first step of an Engagement. Everytime a user clicks on a link pointing to your Engagement, he will arrive on a page that displays your Welcome screen. This is a very important step as it is the first impression the user will have.

You never get a second chance to make a Great first impression.

The goal of the Welcome screen is to introduce the Engagement to the user and then let him start the experience.

Here are some Welcome screen examples created by Major Brands :

Composition

Welcome Screens are composed of 3 main items:

1. Call To Action

It is a text that introduces the Engagement, and that tells the user what he will have to do. It must be a clear, concise sentence and it often begins with a verb. Here are some Call To Action examples:
  1. Draw your own emoticon
  2. What is your next destination?
  3. Share your vision of America

2. Background

The background of the Welcome screen can be just a color or a custom image.  The call to action will be displayed above this background so it is important to choose it so that user will clearly see the call to action.

As the Welcome screen will have to adapt to all screen sizes it is important that you do not put text or important elements in the gray zones of the editor

3. Start button

The start button is here to allow user to start the Engagement experience. You can decide to use the SLAM Start button that will be added above the background and call to action.
If you decide not to add a start button, then any click in the Welcome screen will start the Engagement. This feature is useful if you decide to use a custom image that already displays a start button in it.
