The core purpose of SLAM is to create Engagement experiences to share and interact with your audience.
This tutorial will walk you through all the steps from the creation, to the distribution and metrics collection of any Engagement. If you are not familiar with what an Engagement is on SLAM,
you might want to check out this article first.
Choose a template
Once you are Signed in, you land on SLAM's home screen.
First you need to choose the template for your Engagement. In this tutorial I will use the DRAW template. The overall process is similar for all Engagement types, only specific features differ : you can learn more about them in the corresponding section.
1. Create the Splashscreen
The first thing you have to do with your new engagement is to
create the Splashscreen. The Splashscreen is basically the page where your users will land when accessing your engagement, the first touchpoint that allows you to present your brand and the experience you want to share. As such, you want to make it an
enjoyable, efficient landing page to welcome your users and get them to start the Engagement.
You can do that by defining a clear and impactful Call To Action in the textbox, and choosing a Background color from the available options.
If you want more elaborate design options, you can create a dedicated background and upload it as an image. To use custom image for your splashcreen, simply click on the Image tab right next to the Colors tab.
In this case, my Splashscreen image already contains the call to action text, so I don't need the one from CTA text field and have emptied it as a result .
You can also decide to add a start button, which mainly acts as a visual feature and Call To Action, as the full Splashscreen is already clickable and would start the Engagement anyway.
Go beyond :
- Click here to read more about Splashscreens
- Or browse examples to see Splashscreens created by major brands
2. Specify the background
Now that you have created your Splashscreen, scroll down to the background section and select a background for your Draw Engagement.
You can also click the start button in the preview. It will automatically scroll for you
The background is the image on which users will be able to draw.
It's important to remember taht Gray areas will be cropped to fit mobile screen sizes, so avoid placing mandatory branding elements in this area. Always make sure that your important message and branding elements fit within the center area.
Minimalism is also key, and remember that your background will be drawned or written upon by your users : so stick to a clear and impactful image with enough room for your audience to express, and your Engagement will perform great !
3. Specify Brush properties
For the Draw Engagement, next section is the Brush properties definition. Other Engagements Type skip this step, so you might want to read more about them in the specific sections of the Knowledge Base.
Default basic options include Default Color and Color restriction, which basically allow you to choose the color your users will start with (could be your Brand's color, for example) and whether or not you want them to be able to select other colors.
In this tutorial, I will just set the default color to red. You can try different options and directly see the effect on the preview.
More advanced options include Brush Type, Stroke Size, Opacity, Blur and Spray effects. All these properties have default values that can be modified to fit your Engagement's needs.
You can try to draw on your image from the preview to test the experience
4. Define a Foreground
This section is optional but I will use it to reduce the drawing area to only the yellow circle. As the foreground is displayed above everything I will use an image that has transparency only at the size of the circle.
The foreground MUST have transparency otherwise it will mask everything and user won't be able to do anything.
You will notice that the foreground image is a very similar feature than the Mask Overlay Engagement : you can play with both based on the User Experience you want to create for your audience.
5. E-mail capture
In this tutorial I won't use e-mail capture but you can have a look on article How to use e-mail capture.
6. Customize User Sharing Options
When you scroll to User Sharing Options, the preview displays how the sharing experience will look like for your users.
You can also click on the Done green button of the preview to scroll to next section
You can easily select and activate the pltaform and sharing options you want to provide your users. In my case, I have selected all of them.
You can also define the sharing title. Sharing title is the Title that will be used every-time a user share a post. Default value is:
But it is often better to define a more appropriate sentence, especially if you have a very specific experience to relate to. In my case I chose:
Look at my amazing emoticon!
7. Last but not least... publish your Engagement
At this stage your engagement is ready to be used. Dont forget to save it with the Save Changes button at the top of the page.
Once your engagement is saved, the saved button converts to a `LIVE TEST` button. This button is very important because it allows you to preview and test your Engagement on desktop and mobile.
To test on your desktop, just click the Click button. If you want to test on a mobile phone simply scan the QRCode.
If you have an iPhone you can simply open the camera and point it to the QRCode. Then you should see a link that open in Mobile Safari. Otherwise you can use your preferred QRCode scanner app.
That's it, you have previewed and fine tuned your Engagement ! What's next? Well, when you are happy with your Engagement you can simply use the Engagement URL in Section 7, and spread it all over the World :-)
